James Lick Middle School Modernization

Modernization to an existing three-story 100,000sf fully occupied middle school classroom building. Upgrades to the building for seismic safety, installing new fire safety systems, repairing and replacing electrical and plumbing systems, and improving accessibility for students with disabilities. Reinforced concrete shear walls and structural steel collector beams were installed on every floor to transfer the load along the building’s corridors. The addition of a new elevator with its mechanism on the roof inside a tower that also reflects the look of the building, and another elevator outside the building that connects to the upper floors via a bridge were installed. Renovation to the existing historical performing arts theater and an instrument storage area.
